Windows Azure
Windows Azure Mobile Services currently on has support for Windows Store, Windows Phone, iOS, Android and HTML. Going forward one would expect a plugin for Compact 2013. Whilst there are currently no direct portals for Compact 2013 with Windows Azure (e.g. Azure Mobile), a Compact 2013 application can consume and post SQL Azure data in a general way via a web site that consumes and posts Azure data on its behalf. There is an excellent article by JeffGla on Codeplex that covers this:
“Windows Azure Cloud Sensor Sample for Windows Embedded Compact 2013” http://weccloudsensorsample.codeplex.com/
It walks you through:
• How to sign up for a free 90-day Windows Azure account. • How to create a Windows Azure web site. • How to create a Windows Azure SQL database. • How to access these Windows Azure services from a device running Windows Embedded Compact 2013.
The accompanying code sample simulates a temperature sensor that runs on a Windows Embedded Compact device.
• The sensor application sends randomly generated temperature data to a Windows Azure web site that is backed by a Windows Azure SQL database. • The monitor application, also running on a device running Compact 2013, periodically retrieves and displays the data collected by the Windows Azure web site.
