A Compact 2013 OS design is commonly known as a Platform Builder project workspace within the Visual Studio 2012 IDE to develop custom OS runtime image for a Compact 2013 target device.

In addition to function as the workspace to develop OS runtime image, an VS 2012 OS design provides the workspace to developer native code application and device driver for Compact 2013 devices.
