About CEComponentWiz

CEComponnetWiz simplifies all of the above by capturing all of the content and metadata into a single subproject. When the subproject is built, the content is copied to the release directory along with BIB,DAT and REG files. The BIB file has entries for the selected content specifying what files to copy. When the project is built in the wizard, these files are copied into a Resources folder in the subproject. Once a file is selected, a shortcut for it can be specified and placed when the OS runs in any one of the standard OS folders. These standard folders are also generated when the OS runs. This folder and meta-information is stored in the DAT file. The standard folders for placing shortcuts includes the Startup folder and the Start menu folder. Any selected registry entries (selected as text file in RegEdit4 format) are merged into the project REG file.

When a file is selected the wizard determines if it belongs in the MODULES or FILES section of the BIB file. This can be manually changed. You can also choose BIB flags from the checkboxes.

A new feature of Version 4.0 was support for the Compact13MinShell as used with Compact13Tools Whilst this was introduced with Version 3.1 it wasn't seamless. With this version, there is a separate check box for each component that is an application to enable it to be on theCompact13MinShell menu, which it can be simply launched from the Shell like a Windows Start menu. This version also enabled delayed component resourcing. Previously the wizard collected all components in the project Resources file, which is good for packaging and distributing the project to others. The delayed resourcing allows for the original component file to be collected only when the Subproject is built which is useful when apps are being developed. It can also be used to integrate the build of such  apps into the OS solution, and causing there build with e OS, using a Build Solution command.

Up to Version 4.0, installation is a normally installation to the PC and uses PBScripts to integrate the wizard into Platform Builder running under Visual Studio. Version 4.1 facilities web installation using ClickOnce technology.

A new feature of CEComponentWiz V3.0 was that a matching .INF file is placed in the subproject root. When the subproject is built, a .CAB file is generated in the release directory. This will install the files on an existing system along with shortcuts. The required folders are created. There is an option actually place the files in those folders rather than place their shortcuts there. In this version, registry entries are not added to the CAB file.
