To develop on all hardware platforms described in the previous paragraphs, we need only one IDE : Visual Studio 2012. If we use .Net Micro Framework (with Netduino Plus board) or Windows 8 Embedded Standard, we can begin to develop at no cost (except for hardware) using Visual Studio Express 2012 for Windows Desktop. If we want to use .Net Compact Framework 3.9 on Windows Embedded Compact 2013 we need Visual Studio 2012 Professional edition or higher and in this case we can install a trial version before buy it.
