MQTT Example using Windows Embedded Standard

In the previous chapter, we started an MQTT example scenario with a light monitoring system based on Compact OS. This example has the publisher client side that read light values using a Phidgets USB sensor and send them to an MQTT broker. Now, it’s time to develop the subscriber client side that receives light values and show them to a user. The subscriber runs on a monitoring station that could be a normal PC with a consumer Windows installation but typically in a home or industrial automation system it is useful that it was based on an embedded version of the operating system, like Windows Embedded Standard 7 (WES7) or Windows Embedded 8 Standard. In this way, we complete the Microsoft embedded solution offer for MQTT based Internet Of Things applications, using the same M2Mqtt client library on all platforms.

This chapter will cover the following subjects:

·         Broker and subscriber on Windows Embedded Standard

·         MQTT subscriber
