5.2: Target Device Consideration
Created by sphung on 7/25/2013 6:44:28 PM

Developing a Compact 2013 target device from the ground up is a challenging, complex, time consuming and costly project.  In addition to the hardware design tasks, there are multiple pieces of low level software components needed to support the device, such as hardware adaptation codes, bootloader and device drivers.

Whether you are using an off-the-shelf hardware or develop custom hardware to build a Compact 2013 device, using hardware components with existing Compact 2013 support help save valuable development resources, minimize project cost and shorten development schedule.

Compact 2013 is designed to support multiple processor architectures.  Hardware features for a target device based on the ARM processor is different from the one based on the x86 processor.  Whether you need an x86 device or an ARM device for your project, when searching for a device to support Compact 2013 development, look for device with BSP for Compact 2013.  If you cannot find a device with BSP that meet the requirements, look for device with the following resources:

·         Device drivers to support all onboard peripherals.

·         Bootloader.

·         Connectivity to download and update firmware/bootloader.

·         Connectivity to deploy OS image and application for testing and debugging.
