Debug, Test and Remote Tools

In software development, developer typically needs to spend a lot more times to debug and test their codes than writing new codes.  An efficient development environment with the right tools can help minimize time spent on debugging and testing related tasks, which enables the developer to allocate more time to write new codes, which translate to higher productivity, lowering cost and shorten development schedule.

To cover the debugging and testing tools for Compact 2013 in details, the required contents will span into a full size book, which is not the objective for this book.  Not all of the debugging tools and methods are covered.  Only the tools and methods that are commonly used for most projects are covered.  Refer to Compact 2013 documentation for additional information.

This chapter introduces you to the debugging environment and related tools provided as part of the Compact 2013 software toolkit and talks about the required components to use these tools, covering the following subjects:

·         Debugging Compact 2013 OS design

·         Debugging Compact 2013 Application

·         Remote Tools

·         Compact Test Kit

Note:              The content in this chapter is written for OS design and application development for Compact 2013, using production quality BSP with kernel independent transport layer (KITL) support.  Not all of the Compact 2013 debugging tools are covered. Only the tools that are commonly used for most projects are covered.
