Platform Builder (PB) is a set of development tools and resources to support Compact 2013 related software development.  The latest version, Platform Builder for Compact 2013, is a plug-in to the Visual Studio 2012 integrated development environment (VS 2012 IDE).

For Windows CE 5.0 and earlier versions, Platform Builder was a standalone IDE to develop OS design, BSP, device driver and related development.  Starting in Windows Embedded CE 6.0, Platform Builder became a plug-in to the Visual Studio environment where Visual Studio IDE is the interface to access Platform Builder development tools.

For Compact 2013, VS 2012 IDE is the interface to support all Compact 2013 software development tasks.
